The gay club that time forgot!  Who's afraid of the bigband Wolfenden?

An unmarried person in this country is a social misfit, and is suspect" Sunday Pictorial Newspaper, 16 August 1953

The government's Wolfenden Committee advising on homosexual law reform first met in 1954.  At the time homosexuals of both genders met and were entertained in a very few pubs and clubs in the centre of London.  Dark, crowded and under threat of police harassment here the marginalised gathered illegally.  In the year 2000 those old-time benders get the nightclub they deserved.  A night of big bnhads and dressing up with specially commissioned performance recreating the homosexual underworld of 1954 in the fabulous setting of the Rivolli Ballroom.

Come dressed in your gown or tux as a saucy sailor or guardsman, and join in with the interactive installations - everything from casinos to polari and cottaging workshops.  As the 1950's underground goes overground and glamorous for one night only, come and celebrate the lives of our queer ancestors and send a message to the modern day Wolfendens in Whitehall.  Quick-step to the Jean Bently Orchestra, fox-trot to the tunes of DJ Ame Lamé and swoon to the performance by Chris Green and special guests.
